gakusei goals

I know this site should talk more about the aims of this project. For one, this is still to be decided. Overall, it can be anything that relates to computer-aided learning of the Japanese language. But to be a bit more specific, I want to list a couple of things that I hope to get out of this project and that I think would make valuable contributions.

  • Japanese input for PDA (being worked on)
    PDA can be such a valuable tool for learning on the road.
    There has been a load of progress here lately. Openzaurus is gaining momentum in Japan which makes me very happy.
  • dumps of the Japanese wikipedia for offline use as reference tool (again, PDA comes to mind)
  • (scripts to create a wikipedia dump)
  • good vocab program, that is cross-platform and follows the Leitner-system while presenting items in a biased-random fashion
  • vocab lists
  • EDICT and wadoku in formats suitable for offline use
  • (scripts to convert in other formats from EDICT format)
  • possibly a dokuwa dictionary which is sorely missing
